Architectural Project Designer/Job Captain

Carmel, Indiana or Frankfort, Illinois


Play a key part in helping churches create the right space to foster effective ministry by working on all phases of design, from conceptual design to construction administration, under the direction Architects. The ideal candidate is a skilled designer, with the capacity to job captain large commercial projects.


  • Responsible for organizing the detailed production and coordination of a project. Ensure the production of drawings and deliverables are occurring.
  • Execute original design intent for the project. Able to take a sketch or design from a Project Architect and develop it from a conceptual and detailed perspective, creating workable drawings from it. Develop multiple design iterations and options from original design intent.
  • Interface with the client
  • Lead contact for external consultants
  • Use detail libraries, industry standard construction details, and innovative experience to produce drawings that reflect best use of construction methods and quality control.
  • May assist in executing construction administration which includes submittals, RFIs, and drawing addenda
  • Other responsibilities such as maintaining the Revit file, conducting existing building reviews, creating workaround strategies, facilitating the development of client-facing models and deliverables.

Relevant Experience: Five plus years of experience, including job captain responsibilities. Preferably working toward or having a desire to obtain licensure. Proficiency in current versions of Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Design Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Education: Minimum four-year degree in Architecture. Masters preferred.

Knowledge Areas: Principles of design and visualization, with an emphasis on innovation. Exhibiting a visionary mindset.  Ability to understand and interpret budgetary guidelines and project expenditures a plus.  Experience in commercial projects and/or a working knowledge of church culture leadership, ministry and facilities is also a plus.

Desired Skills: Demonstrates effectiveness in working in a team setting, communicating with others, customer satisfaction and technical competence. Capable of carrying out independent assignments with minimal supervision. Demonstrates an understanding of construction practices and methodologies. Adept at problem solving. Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.

  • Satisfactory criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Percentage of travel required: 10-20%
